June 2010 The high temperatures and pressures during the month caused the fish to become selective in their feeding and to seek deep water. The best returns were made during the early mornings or evenings with Buzzers, Diawl Bach, GRHE and PTNs all producing some good sport. Several fish in the 3lb to 4lb reange were taken. There continues to be a good flow of water through the lakes and there have been several good hatches of Mayfly, Buzzers and Damsels. The average for the month was 2.3 per rod visit and for the season it is 2.76. May 2010 May turned out to be a big fish month with 39 fish in the 3lb to 4lb 4oz range being taken. The returns from each lake were almost identical. The flies that did the damage were the usual PTN's, Buzzers and Damsels. It was reported that good sport and returns had been achieved using May Flies, Daddies and Sedges; all fished as dries. The sun has coloured the water slightly but this has not affected the fishing. The flow of water through the lakes is being maintained. The average for the month was 2.73 per rod visit and it now stands at 2.96 for the season so far. April 2010 In spite of the cold North Easterly winds which were ever present during the month some excellent catches were recorded. Ben Walsh captured a 5lb rainbow and 14 fish in the 3 to 4lb range were taken.Montanas, Damsels, PTN's and Buzzers produced plenty of action. Good returns were also reported by anglers using Dry Flies which imitated the hatches. We do still have a few vacancies for all classes of Membership (see the Membership page for details). The average for the month was 2.88 per rod visit and for the season 3.16. March 2010 After the excavation work to deepen the Lower Lake and the completion of the landscaping the opening of the 2010 season on March 6th was enjoyed by 13 keen anglers with 49 fish being taken. The weather was bright but there was a sharp north-easterly blowing; the water was clear but choppy. Some excellent over-wintered fish were taken on a variety of flies which included Buzzers, Damsel and PTN patterns. The largest fish taken was a 4lb 12 oz Rainbow by Terry Ransome while junior member Jake Baldwin caught a 4lb 8oz rainbow in the Lower Lake. In all, 33 fish in the 3lb to 4lb range were taken during March. The average for the month was 3.43 per rod visit. |
