2008

2007 2006

October 2008

Our Season closed on a very cold October 25th.

10 fish weighing 3lbs. plus and 2 weighing 4lbs. 8ozs were booked in during the month. The fish fell to a variety of flies with buzzers featuring well. Some late Blues, which have given good sport throughout the Season, were taken.

The average catch per rod visit during October was 2.7 and the final average for the Season was 2.66.

The catch returns indicate that almost 90% of the fish stocked were caught; the survivors are being fed through the Winter.

September 2008

The lakes produced 14 fish in the 3lb to 4lb 8oz range during the month. Buzzers, Hoppers and Nymphs have all taken their share of the spoils.

The fish have been rising well in both lakes during the month.

The average for the month was 2.70 per rod visit and the Season's average is running at 2.57 per rod visit.

August 2008

The substantial quantities of rain during the month have kept the Lakes in excellent condition and there is a good movement of water through the lakes. There have been some good rises during the day and in the evenings.

Ten fish in the 3 to 4lb range have been taken with Buzzers, Damsels, PTNs, Montanas and GRHE among the favourite flies.

The average for the month was 2.64 per rod visit with the average for the season falling slightly to 2.75

July 2008

Both lakes have produced some excellent fishing during the month. Nineteen fish in the 3lb to 10lb 8oz range have been taken.

The largest fish, a new Society record at 10lb 8oz, was taken by Raoul Barber. To quote Rauol, "I have waited a long time for this one a lifetime's best".

Buzzers, PTNs and GRHE have again produced the returns. There is a good flow of clear water and good hatches.

The Monthly average is 2.78 per rod visit and the season's average increased to 2.96

June 2008

The fishery has produced consistent returns for the month, the water is crystal clear and is running well. Returns show that 12 fish in the 3lb 4oz to 6lb 12oz range were taken, the largest by Roy Goodwin.

The usual selection of PTNs, Damsels and Buzzers returned good catches; again the fish seem to favour dressings containing green, red and black. Small Fritz patterns have also caught well.

The average for the month is 2.5 per rod visit, the season's is 2.71 per rod visit.

May 2008

In spite of the very changeable weather during the month the lakes have produced some excellent returns with 12 fish in the 3lb plus to 8lb range being recorded. The best fish were recorded by Mike Choppin and Jack Frost these weighed just short of 8lb.

The usual range of Buzzers and Nymphs have produced the catches, green is one of the most popular dressings. There is a good flow of clear water running through both lakes.

The monthly average per rod visit is 2.6 and so far for the seasons it is 2.78.

April 2008

The weather during April was somewhat challenging during the month with the wind being in the North for several days at a time.

The fish responded by going into the deep water. They still reacted well to the usual buzzers and PTNs; these produced results if the dressing included Green or Red in the tying. The best fish was taken by Tony Chatten which weighed in at 5lb 4oz. This was closely followed by a 5lb speciman taken by M Dicks. Several other fish in the 3lb plus range were also taken during the month.

The average return per rod visit for the period is 2.69 and for the season it is now 2.88.

At the moment we have a limited number of vacancies for season tickets.

March 2008

The Lakes opened on schedule on March 8th.

The weather was cold and the wind blustery but, in spite of this, 15 Members decided that the Winter was over and it was time for serious fishing. A Rainbow weighing in at 6lb 2oz was taken by D Green early in the day. This fish was joined by 44 others on opening day.

The fish were fed during the Winter and this appears to have paid dividends.as during the month seven fish in the 3lb to 5lb range were taken. Mr A Thorndyke recorded a 6lb 2oz and a 4lb rainbow. The patterns of flies used included PTN, Buzzers and the old favourite Montana.

The first stocking of Blues have been added and have provided excellent sport in both Lakes.

There is a good flow of clear water through the lakes and the average for the month is 3.13 fish per rod visit.

It looks as though we are at the start of an excellent season.

The Society has a few vacancies for all classes of rod at the moment.
