2008 2007 2006

October 2009

The 2009 Season closed on a wet and windy October 31st.

During the month some very good fish were taken. They included a 5lb Rainbow by Barry Palmer, 12 weighing in at 4lb plus and 5 over 3lb.

The fish did however proved difficult during the month shoaling and keeping just out of casting distance. The most successful flies were Black buzzers, Spider patterns and Muddlers mostly tied on small hooks. It was necessary to change retrieve patterns to attract a take on most sessions.

The average for the month was 1.98 per rod visit and for the Season it ended at 2.95.

The surviving fish are being fed throughout the closed season and some good sport should be enjoyed in 2010.

September 2009

The larger fish have been showing well but have been selective in their choice of flies during the month.

It has been necessary to change flies and tactics frequently to entice the fish. Spider patterns, Daddies and flies in the surface have worked well.

Six fish in the 3lb plus range and two weighing in at 4lb have been taken.

The average for the month was 2.5 and for the season it is now 2.57 per rod visit.

The lakes are well stocked and should produce some excellent fishing during October.

August 2009

The fish have been showing well on and just below the surface throughout the month. They have been selective in their feeding with long breaks between periods of feeding during the day.

Patterns had to be changed frequently during sessions to keep the fish interested. The usual nymphs and buzzers with the odd muddler gave the best returns.

9 Rainbows in the 3lb to 5lb range were taken, the largest fish was a 5lb 2oz speciman taken by Roy Goodwin followed by a 4lb 8oz landed by Ben Walsh.

The average for the month was 2.53 per rod visit and the average for the season 2.7.

July 2009

Both lakes have continued to produce some good results in varying weather conditions.

Terry Harris landed an 8lb 8oz Rainbow this was taken from the Lower lake in adverse weather conditions. Peter Lunniss caught and landed a 5lb Rainbow from the Upper Lake and several fish in the 3 to 4lb range were taken from both Lakes.

Buzzers,PTN's and GRHE seem to be the current favourites for the month.

Flies fished on a static line produced good reults.

The average for the month was 2.2 and for the season it is now 2.79.

June 2009

The high temperatures and pressures produced testing times for the fishing during the month.

During the month several fish in the 3lb plus and 4lb 8oz range were taken. The largest fish taken in the month by Ben Walsh was a 5lb 10oz rainbow, this was followed by a 5lb 8oz speciman by Mr A Hudson.

The usual PTN's, Damsels, Buzzers and Fritz patterns have produced the returns.

The water is clear and is running well.

The average for the month is 2 fish per rod visit and for the season 2.78.

May 2009

The East winds during the month seem to have had only a slight effect on the catch returns.

Some excellent returns have been made with 9 fish in the 3lb plus range being logged; 11 fish in the 4lb plus range have also been recorded. The best of these, which weighed in at 4lbs 12ozs, was caught by Mr A Middleton.

Buzzers have again featured this month with the favourites being those tied with green or red in the dressing. Damsels,GRHE,PTN's and small lures have also produced good returns.

The water is running clear and there have been some good hatches of Damsels and Buzzers.

The monthly average is 2.98 and for the season it currently stands at 3.23.

April 2009

The wind was in the East for several days and this drove the fish into the deeper water.

They reacted well to Buzzers fished on long leaders - the usual patterns having green, red or black in the tying found favour. Fish were also attracted by GRHE, PTNs and Damsel patterns.

6 fish in the 3lb plus were also taken; these were from our over-wintered stock.

There is a good flow through the lakes. Hatches of buzzers being seen during the day together with the first Damsels.

The average return per rod visit is 2.87 for the month. The Season's Average is 3.19 per rod visit.

At the moment we have a limited number of vacancies for season tickets (see the Membership page for details).

March 2009

The Lakes opened as scheduled on March 7th; the weather was fine but overcast with a slight breeze.

27 Members threw away the Winter Blues and visited the lakes on opening day, 76 fish were taken. These included a nice brace of Rainbows by Bill Austin which weighed in at 5lb and 4lb 12 oz. They were part of the 2008 stockings which had overwintered.

During the month a total of 16 fish in the 3lb to 5lb plus range were landed these fish had all overwintered.

The flies used were the usual Buzzer and Nymph patterns carrying Black,Green or Red in their tying. Montanas and Vivas also produced good returns.

Ken Hughes had a battle with and caught a 4lb plus Brown from the Lower Lake it has been estimated that it had been a resident for about 3 years.

The first stocking of Blues have been well received and have given some excellent sport.

The monthly average is 3.515 per rod visit.
